  • Illegal Dumping on Bonaire: A Growing Threat to Health and Nature

Trash dumped along the roadside. Old furniture tossed into the mondi. Construction waste left in public spaces. Illegal dumping is becoming a serious issue on Bonaire—and it's hurting more than just the view.

This isn’t just about litter,” says a spokesperson from the Department of Supervision and Enforcement. “Illegal dumping pollutes the soil, attracts pests, and puts people and animals at risk. It can even damage our roads and infrastructure.”

New public awareness campaign launched

To tackle the problem, the government has launched a campaign aimed at raising awareness and encouraging action by residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

Here’s what to expect:

  • TV and radio spots highlighting the real impact of illegal dumping on our island.
  • Social media posts with easy tips on how to properly dispose of waste and keep your surroundings clean.
  • Local interviews with enforcement officers sharing stories from the field and ways the public can help.

It takes all of us

The government can’t do this alone. “We need everyone’s help,” says the spokesperson. “Don’t dump. Report illegal activity. And if you see someone doing it—say something. A cleaner, healthier Bonaire starts with all of us.”
