A total of 45.9 tons of waste was collected during Bario Limpi 2026. From Friday, September 18 through Sunday, September 20, residents in twelve neighborhoods across Bonaire could dispose of large household waste and litter in designated containers. The final day of the initiative coincided with World Cleanup Day.
Through Bario Limpi, the government of Bonaire and Selibon N.V. aim to make it easier for residents to dispose of waste properly. The 45.9 tons collected over the weekend was kept off roadsides and out of nature.
“Every ton that goes into a container is one less ton ending up along the road or in nature,” says Sherman Blanken, Head of Projects and Task Forces at Bonaire’s Department of Supervision and Enforcement. “With Bario Limpi, we make it easier for residents to dispose of waste properly. At the same time, we will continue to monitor illegal dumping. Waste left in nature harms the entire island.”
Selibon also emphasizes that keeping neighborhoods clean does not stop after a cleanup weekend. “A clean neighborhood starts with how we handle our waste every day,” says Clinton Kirindongo, Manager of Customer Relations and Communications at Selibon N.V. “We hope residents will continue to be mindful of this after Bario Limpi.”
The government of Bonaire and Selibon thank all residents and everyone who helped organize and carry out Bario Limpi.
