From Friday, September 18 through Sunday, September 20, large dumpsters will be placed in 12 neighborhoods across Bonaire as part of Bario Limpi. Residents can use them to dispose of bulky household items and litter. The Public Entity Bonaire (OLB), Bonaire’s local government, and Selibon are making it easier for residents to dispose of waste properly and help prevent illegal dumping.
The final day of Bario Limpi coincides with World Cleanup Day on Sunday, September 20. Millions of people around the world take part by cleaning up their communities. Bonaire residents can join in by cleaning up their street or neighborhood and bringing the collected waste to the dumpster in their area.
What can go in the dumpsters?
The dumpsters are intended for bulky household waste, including furniture, mattresses, old appliances, household items, scrap wood, and small amounts of yard waste.
Construction debris, paint and chemicals, oil products, car batteries, asbestos, medical waste, large amounts of organic manure, and gas cylinders are not allowed in the dumpsters. Different disposal rules apply to these materials. Residents should take them directly to Selibon or an appropriate designated collection point.

Waste left along roads or dumped in nature can create health and sanitation problems. It can also attract pests and create breeding grounds for mosquitoes. OLB and Selibon therefore encourage residents to use the dumpsters and dispose of their waste responsibly.
On Sunday, September 20, residents can also take part in World Cleanup Day by cleaning up their street, neighborhood, or surrounding area.
