On Bonaire, nature isn’t a backdrop. It’s where we live every day. Still, we sometimes forget how deeply our lives are tied to it. With the awareness campaign We’re part of nature, we’re shining a light on that connection.

Everyone knows that one moment: you pause, you look around, and you feel how close and vast nature really is. The sunrise over Wasao. The sea breathing at sunset. A sky full of stars that stops you in your tracks. These moments of wonder remind us that we’re part of nature—and that it’s our responsibility to protect it.

What this campaign is about

Our ancestors lived directly from what nature provided: sun, water, air, and soil. That hasn’t changed. We still live from nature today. From fish in the sea and crops grown on the kunuku, to the energy we draw from sun and wind. Nature feeds us, shelters us, and keeps our island in balance.

Yet we often overlook that truth. We enjoy the view, the breeze, the silence—but we forget how much we depend on it every single day. Tourists come for coral reefs and flamingos. Fishers take their catch from the sea. Farmers harvest from the land. Even our electricity comes from the sun and the wind. Everything on Bonaire runs on nature.

That’s why this campaign starts with wonder. Because wonder opens our eyes to something bigger. And when we see that clearly, we know: we’re part of nature.

Where to see the campaign

From October through December, you’ll spot the campaign everywhere: in the newspaper, on digital billboards, indoor screens, online banners, and across your social feed. Each image captures a moment of wonder—where people and nature meet.

How you can join

Everyone can share their own moment of wonder. From October 13 to November 9, join our video challenge. Record a short clip in Bonaire’s nature, environment, or agriculture. Say—or shout—“Nos ta biba di naturalesa.”

Like our Facebook page, upload your video, and tag us so we can see it. The four videos with the most likes will win a unique NTBDN prize package: a custom T-shirt, a matching notebook, and a pen made from recycled ocean plastic.

Not ready to make a video? You can still take part by pausing for your own moment of wonder. Notice what moves you. Share it. And explore our website to see the projects we’re building together. Follow all campaign stories on Facebook and YouTube.
