Bonaire’s Executive Council has received an official inspection report from the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT), focusing on the operations of Selibon, the island’s waste collection and processing company. The inspection took place in late August.
The findings were reviewed with the Kingdom Representative, and the Council is now taking time to study the report in full. “Everyone on Bonaire depends on reliable, safe, and clean waste services,” said Bonaire’s Commissioner Clark Abraham. “We’re committed to making sure Selibon meets the standards our community deserves.”
The report has also been shared with the Island Council. Next steps will be announced once the Executive Council completes its review and determines what actions—if any—are needed.
What’s the ILT?
The ILT is a Dutch government agency that monitors compliance with environmental and public safety laws. It checks whether companies like Selibon follow the rules that help protect people’s health, the environment, and overall quality of life.
This inspection is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen waste management on Bonaire. For a cleaner island today, and a healthier future tomorrow.
