Preparations are underway for the maintenance of the fishing pier at Playa Pabou. On February 13, 2026, the Public Entity of Bonaire signed a contract with Streefkerk Architects and Consultants and Caribbean Underwater Works. This marks the start of a project the local community has been asking for over time.
In this phase, materials are being selected and ordered to withstand the harsh coastal environment. The goal is clear: restore the pier so it is safe to use and built to last.
For many fishermen on Bonaire, the pier is a daily workspace. It’s where their day begins and ends. The condition of the pier directly affects both their safety and their ability to work. Proper maintenance is not optional. It is essential.
Once materials arrive, construction will begin in phases. The pier will remain accessible as much as possible, allowing fishermen to continue their work.
This project supports the preservation of a location that plays a key role in the local economy and in everyday life on Bonaire.
